As of right now (August 30, 2018), several school districts in Washington state are on strike, delaying the first day of school. Several more jurisdictions, including Portland, may be next.
Like the strikes in other parts of the US during the previous school year, the main issue is the adequacy of school funding, including teacher salary and compensation.
