Yet another teacher strike happened yesterday (Wednesday). This time, the strike was in Oregon. Unlike strikes in previous states, however, the teachers were not primarily demanding increases in their own salaries (though compensation for what teachers spend out of pocket was one of the issues). Rather, teachers want increased funding for more librarians, art and music programs, nurses, and mental health counselors. Overcrowding in classrooms is also one of the big issues.
It will be a little difficult for naysayers to resort to the typical "but they get summers off" counterargument this time around.
