Instructurecon 2018

I've been attending Instructurecon (the conference for folks using the Canvas LMS) for the past couple of days in the beautiful location of Keystone Colorado. Overall, I've been enjoying the conference. Some of the positives:
  • Absolutely beautiful location and weather. Compared to the hot and muggy summer in the DC Metro region, the low humidity and cool evenings are just what the doctor ordered.
  • Interesting pre-conference workshops. I attended a workshop on Canvas Data and another on Canvas API basics, and both were interesting. There wasn't a whole lot new (to me), but there were some nice tidbits I could pick up.
  • Enjoyable sessions. It's always interesting to hear and see what others are doing, and the sessions were a great chance to see the scope of what folks are doing with Canvas.
  • A well-received presentation. Having only attended Instructurecon once previously, we were a little nervous about whether our presentation on Canvas data would hit the right note for the conference. The generally positive audience reaction suggests that we did something right.
  • A great Carnival Night event. Lots of good food and interesting people.

There were a couple of negatives, however:
  • Lots of people. Being in a crowded place tends to tire me out and although everyone was very friendly and pleasant, sometimes you just want a little "alone" time.
  • First day altitude effects. The price paid for the beautiful location is that it is at 9.000 feet above sea level. That takes a little getting used to, especially on arrival day.
Overall, the good outweighed the bad, so I'm looking forward to future Instructurecons.
